Fall Inspiration :: Grunge Chic
For over two years, I lived in the city of rain and the birth of grunge music, Seattle. I was really looking forward to filling my closet with flannel, the button up of the northwest. But as it turns out, as a curvy gal, flannel is a very hard look to pull off with out looking like a lumbersexual or a hipster (my worst style nightmare). I decided to challenge myself, make flannel chic... make those little squares work for my shape.
First step is to ask myself WWDD, what would Drew do. Yes, Drew Barrymore, my personal style icon. As it turns out, Pinterest didn't have much to offer. But where Drew lacked in inspiration except for these two fantastic looks, Miss Jessica Alba stepped right in. Golly, she really knows how to balance the casualness of plaid paired with a modern classic piece. Just look and be inspired!
Next, find the perfect flannel. I started with Goodwill and other thrift stores, but when I couldn't find anything that fit my body correctly or didn't itch, I went to Old Navy. Don't judge, I love Old Navy for basics. I found this one.
I also purchase a sleeveless plaid from Forever for the warmer summer days.
Obviously, the hardest part of putting this look together if finding the perfect pair. Being that is a skirt wearing kind of lady, I love the idea of full skirt with a fitted button up, or a pencil skirt for that classic look. If you prefer pants to skirts, I would suggest high waisted pants like my favorite from City Chic. The idea is to keep the look clean and simple, that is what makes it chic.
Accessories are a great way to bring your look completely together. I love a good big chunky necklace or a sophisticated vintage clutch. Just remember to have fun with your accessories, it will make your outfit pop!
And shoes, well, I can't go anywhere with out my trusty Chelsea booties. Ladies, I live in these things, summer- winter. They go with every single outfit I have!
Ok loves, let me see how you pulled together you grunge chic. Grunge doesn't have to be sloppy or messy... Or it can be too if you want, remember there are no rules in fashion!
